Steve Ryder previews two races on Monday 14th August. With a poor weekend of selections, P&L now -0.61pts
3:15 Ayr- Breanski 3/1 (1pt)
Breanski has shown huge improvement this season with form figures of 2212 and an increased handicap mark from 65 to 75. He ran in an apprentice handicap at York last time over 1m1f when he weakened late on so the drop back to a mile will suit. The rider that day, Patrick Vaughan is a good jockey who can claim his 7lb in this race. The race last time was in a Class 4 handicap and despite the good second, and highest RPR rating of his career, the handicapper has dropped him 1lb for that run. Running in this Class 5 handicap, back down in trip and with his rider’s claim, Breanski should be hard to beat.
3:30 Ripon- Eagle Creek 13/8 (4pt)
Eagle Creek was impressive when winning his maiden on his reappearance this season by 6 lengths at Lingfield. He was then really well backed when disappointing in a hot handicap on 2000 Guineas Day at Newmarket. He took a keen hold early before becoming unbalanced in the dip and appearing not to handle the track. Back on a more conventional track today should give him the opportunity to fulfil the promise of his reappearance. Eagle Creek has to give nearly a stone to all of his rivals in this race but if he is to prove a Group level performer he will need to be winning this off a mark of 95. He has been given a break since his last run and I believe he will win this before tackling Group races later in the season.
