Things didn’t go well for Malaga on Tuesday evening. Even if they were leading twice they ended up losing four goals to two. This result is now leaving Juan Ramón López Muñiz’s men to a difficult task on Saturday evening.
Depor winning on Tuesday was a bit of a surprise. Malaga have been very strong away from home and La Coruna werent’ able to defeat them during the two games played in the regular season. Depor, however, delivered a great performance exactly when needed.
The key to their victory was to use a more pragmatic approach. They have let the possession of the ball to Malaga and have focused to hit them in a counter-attack. Surely Malaga helped them as they were not impressive in the final third, even tough they have eventually managed to find the net twice.
Malaga’s hopes are still there. They are one of Segunda’s best teams at home having won 12 of the 21 home games with just 14 goals conceded and 28 scored. This is an impressive record and will give confidence to the home fans that everything is still open.
Surely Malaga are the favourites but looking at what happened on Tuesday we can certainly say that Depor look overpriced. Not only they have defeated their opponent on Tuesday but they have avoided defeat against them in all the three games played this season against Malaga.
Depor also had the third-best defensive record on the road.
