We have seen Khabib Nurmagomedov in the Octagon only four times in the last three years. That has been enough to consolidate his domination in the lightweight division. His bigger win was against former champion Conor McGregor in what one of of the most important bout in the history of the UFC. Khabib dominated the Irish fighter and even knocking him down at one point. Eventually, he performed a neck crank in round four and secured the win. The Russian was last seen in the Octagon in September 2019 against Max Holloway in Abu Dhabi. The champion showed that he was a level above the rest with a three rounds win.

Who will win Khabib Nurmagomedov v Justin Gaethje fight?
Justin Gaethje has reacted very well following consecutive stoppage losses against Eddie Alvarez and Dustin Poirier in 2017-2018, with three successive first-round stoppage successes. The last fight was against Ferguson, and he was imposing considering that most expected him to crush in this fight. Gaethje left ‘El Cucuy’ hammered in the fifth round, with ‘The Highlight’ that became the new interim lightweight champion and in doing so he secured a shot at Khabib. Will he now complete his rise to the top of the UFC lightweight division, or we will see another response in style from the Russian?
It is important to note that Khabib will step up inside the Octagon for the first time since his dad, Abdulmanap passed away earlier this year. Surely that event has impacted the Khabib as his father played a central role in the training that helped ‘The Eagle’ become that dominant champion that he is today. On the other hand, Khabib is a very religious man and will be motivated to deliver a great fight in tribute to his father.
We expect to see the same gameplan from Khabib. The Russian is able to take down opponents and mauls them until they give up. His striking is not spectacular but has improved and could cause problems to Gaethje.
Gaethje has the skills to slow down the approach that has made Khabib so successful since moving to MMA. He can throw powerful leg kicks and will try to capture the judges’ attention with his striking. The latter is a very talented wrestler and will not be taken down easily, but it is difficult to go against a man who has a perfect 28-0 record and has dominated every fighter he has met in a ring or cage. We do not see this fight ending quickly tough. Backing that the fight will last five rounds looks the best bet here in terms of value.
