The Kenya Open, which has only featured in the circuit in 2019, is back to Muthaiga Golf Club in Nairobi. An important aspect to consider is the thin air of Nairobi, as Kenya’s capital is sitting at 1,795 meters above sea level. This is why we need to find a player that has proven himself to do well at high-altitude, and our choice has been for India’s Shubhankar Sharma. Sharma won the 2017 Joburg Open, which has many similarities with this week’s tournament. He was also leading at the WGC Mexico Championship after 36 holes: again, he did well considering the thin air of Mexico City.
Additionally, his form in the last six months has been impressive as in the previous 16 starts, he has been able to achieve nine top 30 finishes, which includes half a dozen top 12s. He was also tied ninth with 18 holes to go in Crans at the European Masters and third in the Open de Espana in Madrid: This is also very relevant with both tournaments at high-altitude. In addition to thin air, this week’s course is a traditional tree-lined affair, and this has proven to be suitable to Sharma, who has an excellent record at Delhi GC, Hong Kong GC and Wentworth.

Each Way Bet: Daan Huizing
Dutchman Daan Huizing has played St Open five times, with four top 15s, three of them top fives. That tournament is very much correlated to this week’s one, and, additionally, he has also played well in Geneve on the second tier. Huizing has won at Galgorm Castle and has form in Nairobi having recorded two top 10s and tied 28th at Muthaiga. He is coming to Kenya, not in excellent condition, but we believe there is outstanding value on his price, considering that he is a four-time winner on the Challenge Tour and has what it takes to be, at least, in contention here.
