Following an 8/1 place yesterday, Steve Ryder previews two races at Downpatrick on Sunday 22nd March. P&L -2.85pts.
1:40 Downpatrick- Barnaviddaun 5/1 (0.5pt ew)
Barnaviddaun is a consistent performer who deserves to get off the mark soon. He finished 2nd by ¾ length at Fairyhouse over 2 miles in February before finishing 2nd behind the 123 rated Arcadian Sunrise at Leopardstown last time.
Barnaviddaun has been running well over 2 miles on his previous two starts but it looks like this step up in trip to 2m2f will suit him well and he sets the standard in this race.
2:10 Downpatrick- The Very Man 9/4 (1pt)
The Very Man has ran well on every start over hurdles so far including on debut when he probably would have won if he hadn’t fell at the last. His previous second placed finish behind Francin at Navan in February has been boosted by the winner following up at Navan since and he was entitled to get off the mark at Naas earlier this month.
The Very Man has to give weight to the impressive recent winner Wajaaha but that rival has been raised 14lb for a four length win which seems harsh and the Gordon Elliott trained runner is a confident selection.
