Following a 4/1 (3pt) winner yesterday, Steve Ryder previews three races on Monday 13th January. P&L -15.5pts.
1:45 Punchestown- Column Of Fire 4/5 (3pt)
Column Of Fire has been unlucky not to have got off the mark over hurdles yet having bumped into the likes of Midnight Run, Elixir D’Ainay and Longhouse Poet. He was sent off 5/2 favourite for a maiden hurdle at Fairyhouse on New Years Day and look set to win but fell at the second last hurdle.
The 119 rated Friary Rock looks the biggest danger to Column Of Fire in this race but it would be disappointing if the selection didn’t get off the mark over hurdles on his sixth attempt.
2:30 Southwell- Suitcase N Taxi 2/1 (1pt)
Suitcase N Taxi was rated at a high of 77 two seasons ago but had dropped down to a mark of 58 in October when he made his first start at Southwell. He has now won four races over C&D in a row off marks of 58, 63, 70 and 73 and he now comes here with a 5lb penalty.
Suitcase N Taxi won by half a length last time but the pair pulled over three lengths clear of the third and he looks set to complete the five timer.
3:10 Lingfield- Epsom Des Mottes 6/4 (1pt)
Epsom Des Mottes won a conditional jockeys’ handicap hurdle at Ayr last time by 14 lengths when fitted with first time cheekpieces. That was a huge improvement on any form he had previously shown and if the cheekpieces have the same effect then he will prove incredibly hard to beat.
Because of the race conditions last time, Epsom Des Mottes doesn’t have to carry a penalty for this race and he should win as a result.
