Following an EVENS (3pt) winner and 5/1 head second yesterday, Steve Ryder previews two races on Friday 23rd January. P&L -22.45pts.
1:50 Doncaster- Hawk High 5/1 (0.5pt ew)
Hawk High has been really consistent for the last two seasons with form figures of 3141222 with three second place finishes this season. He has been nudged up from a mark of 133 up to 134 but should appreciate the return to better ground. His three starts this season have all come on soft ground but his last two victories have come on good ground and good to soft ground.
Hawk High faces last year’s winner Cracking Find in this race but that rival has been in poor form this season and hopefully the Tim Easterby trained runner can deservedly get his head in front.
2:55 Doncaster- Yabass 9/2 (1pt)
This looks a relatively weak novice hurdle so I am willing to take a chance on Yabass who makes his hurdling debut in this race. Previously trained by Archie Watson on the flat, he has transferred to Ben Pauling for his hurdling campaign and returns after a 171 day break.
Yabass was rated in the 90s on the flat and ran well at Royal Ascot when 9th in the Ascot Stakes over 2m3f. Despite not winning over further than 1m4f, he showed good stamina over 2 miles so this switch of codes should prove no problem and he could get off the mark at the first attempt.
