Following 15/2 (35p R4) and 2/1 winners yesterday, Steve Ryder previews two races on Sunday 9th February. P&L -4.10pts.
2:45 Punchestown- Francin 7/4 (2pt)
Francin came off the flat in France with a big reputation and despite not winning any of his three starts over hurdles so far, he should prove hard to beat in this race. He made his hurdling debut in December 2017 where he finished 3rd but suffered an injury and then wasn’t seen for 696 days. He finished 4th on his return at Navan but improved greatly last time to finish 3rd at Leopardstown even at a time where the Mullins stable weren’t firing.
The form of the race last time has worked out well with the second and fourth both winning next time and therefore the effort of Francin can be upgraded. A lot will be made of Pencilfulloflead finishing behind Asterion Forlonge last time but he was well beaten 10 lengths and I prefer the chances of the Willie Mullins trained runner.
3:10 Southwell- Lofty 5/2 (1pt)
Lofty has ran consistently well on five out of six races to date and can be excused his effort here last time when dropped down to 5f which didn’t suit. His first two runs came at the course when second both times where he posted RPRs of 65 and 68.
If Lofty runs to the level of those two starts at the venue then he sets a good standard ahead of the favourite Night Voyager who finished 6th and achieved an RPR of 62 at Lingfield.
