Following a 9/2 winner yesterday, Steve Ryder previews two races on Friday 5th January. January P&L +1.30pts.
6:00 Dundalk- Port Lions 11/8 (1pt)
It is disappointing that Port Lions hasn’t managed to win a race yet but this looks like the easiest opportunity so far. Both his starts this season have been over C&D and despite being a beaten favourite both times, the RPRs for those runs (85 and 80) are better than any of his rivals have achieved. Ship Of Dreams and Havana Go both achieved RPRs of 73 on debut and Kareva has only achieved an RPR over 70 once in his five starts so far. Port Lions’ worst run of his six so far achieved an RPR of 76 so he should prove very difficult to beat. He is poorly drawn in 11 but he is a prominent racer so he will have plenty of time to get across before the first turn and should prove hard to pass.
8:45 Kempton- Magic Mirror 3/1 (1pt)
Magic Mirror’s last five runs at Kempton have resulted in form figures of 22113.meaning that her mark has increased from 54 up to 63. She has improved with each of these runs and hopefully, as a five year old, she is still improving and can take advantage of running off the same handicap mark. She is always held up in her races but had to be switched around horses late on last time and was flying home over 7f last time. Tom Marquand keeps the ride and looks sure to be involved in the finish.
