Following a 14/1 winner yesterday, Steve Ryder previews two races at Newmarket on Friday 12th July. P&L +83.33pts.
1:50 Newmarket- Dark Vision 9/1 (0.5pt ew)
Dark Vision was an exciting two year old who put in an impressive performance winning the Group 2 Vintage Stakes at Goodwood and earning himself a rating of 113. He disappointed in stronger races subsequently but ran well at Royal Ascot in the Britannia Handicap off top weight.
Dark Vision finished 8th overall but 3rd on the unfavoured far side where he was staying on well at the finish over a mile. Now dropped down 2lb to a mark of 103 and up in trip to 1m2f he should go well with five places on offer. (10/1 available but with only 3 places).
3:00 Newmarket- Desert Wind 14/1 (1pt ew)
Desert Wind was my NAP on the On The Hunt Podcast at 25/1 but I think he is worth backing at 14/1. If you forgive him his run at Epsom where he didn’t handle the track, his form figures after his debut effort read 311124431 which shows how consistent he is. He ran well at the course last season behind the likes of Communique (up 22lb and won a Group 2 yesterday), Zaaki (up 10lb) and Beringer (up 4lb) so Desert Wind could prove well handicapped off only a 5lb higher mark.
Desert Wind deserves that 5lb rise for an easy victory at Kempton last time when upped in trip to 1m4f and he looks like he should appreciate this further step up in trip to 1m6f for the first time today. With five places on offer he is a confident selection to hit the frame.
