Ding Junhui

Of the 16 players that have lined up at Alexandra Palace, only seven will make the trip to Austria. This might be a fantastic opportunity, for Ali Carter to go one better. We do not think that will be the case as we believe that last week’s performance was one-off and also he managed to deliver without having any pressure.

We not even sure he will be winning his opening matches against modest opponents, so when he will face either Ding Junjui or Kyren Wilson at the quarter-final stage he is likely to struggle seriously.

We have our concerns that Wilson is at his best, so we do prefer Ding. Surely he didn’t do well against Joe Perry, but before Christmas, he was in top form. If you are looking for an outsider, have a go at Daniel Wells that is available at 150/1. The Welshman has made progress last term and could come through from this draw.

I’m unconvinced the latter is at his best so preference is for Ding, whose defeat to Joe Perry was forgiveable, considering how well he was playing before Christmas. For an outsider, try Daniel Wells at 175/1. The Welshman made good progress last term and could very plausibly come through from this draw.

Our Verdict: Ding Junhui To Win European Masters Snooker

Thepchaiya Un Nooh

Neil Robertson is the favourite to win this tournament, but he is in the most difficult quarter. Here John Higgins will be a threat but the same can be said for Thepchaiya Un Nooh who defeated Robbo last time out. A weak case can also be made for Graeme Dott or even UK quarter-finalist Liang Wenbo who defeated Stuart Bingham here. Surely this is a difficult section to call, but we will go for Un Nooh who is a great talent, surely on the up and valuable at 33/1.

Our Verdict: Thepchaiya Un Nooh To Win European Masters Snooker

Yan Bingtao

The bottom part of the draw has the one player that is considered as the frontline contender. Mark Selby is very short and could well land his third title of the season. If you are looking for value though, we suggest placing an each-way bet on one of the two Chinese prospects. Zhou Yuelong has been playing well and will give Mark Williams a hard time in the opening. Based on his run to the UK semifinals, we are backing Riga Masters champion Yan Bingtao to progress and land his place in the top-16 soon.

Our Verdict: Yan Bingtao To Win European Masters Snooker

Marco Fu

In the weak section of the draw, we have Mark Williams who doesn’t seem capable of repeating the performance he had in 2017-18. Stuart Bingham cannot be backed with confidence, as he has a terrible Master record. Jack Lisowski is ahead in the head to head against Kyren Wilson, but the latter has done better on bigger events and on the one-table format. He has built great experience in finishing runner-up in 2018 and looks a perfect each-way option at 18/1.

Our Verdict: Marco Fu To Win (Each-way) European Masters Snooker
