Match Previews and Betting Tips
Six wins and a draw in seven games is quite an impressive record and sees Exeter City top the League Two table with three points to spare over Notts County and six over Accrington Stanley and Coventry City. Regardless of the results in Saturday’s full fixture list, Exeter should still be in pole position and it is up to their rivals to try and make inroads into the table-toppers advantage.
Exeter City v Crewe Alexandra. Five wins in the previous five games and home advantage makes backing Exeter City to win Saturday’s game with Crewe Alexandra a very sensible bet. Crewe have had a fairly average season so far with three wins and two defeats in seven games. Two of Crewe’s last three outings have ended in defeat as should this weekend’s game with Exeter an excellent bet to win at very reasonable odds of 10/11.
Crawley Town v Notts County. The biggest challengers to Exeter’s lead at the head of the table are Notts County who are also in a rich vein of form at present. Four wins and a draw in the last five games have Notts County within three points of the leaders but a defeat at Crawley Town would see all that good work wasted. Crawley are just seven places off the foot of the table and have won just two of seven games to date. A third win of the season is unlikely this weekend against the second-placed side and neither is a draw. At odds of 5/4 this must go down as a banker away win for Notts County.
Chesterfield v Accrington Stanley. Third in the table but six points behind leaders Exeter City, Accrington Stanley look fairly assured of another three points this Saturday despite playing away from home at Chesterfield. The hosts are in the bottom four with just one win this season and two draws and two defeats in the last four matches. An away win for Accrington Stanley can be backed at around 11/10 which represents good value for a certain victory.
Cambridge United v Coventry City. Following two wins at the start of the season, Coventry City then suffered a mini-slump when losing the next two games. However, the Sky Blues have bounced back with a draw and two wins moving the club up to fourth place. That winning run is under severe threat this weekend as Coventry face Cambridge United who have won two of their last three matches and will enjoy home advantage on Saturday. The bookies offer 13/8 on both the home and away wins making the draw looks a reasonable option at 9/4.
Lincoln City v Mansfield Town. Newly-promoted Lincoln City have done extremely well so far in their loftier League Two surroundings. A good record of three wins and three draws in seven matches sees Lincoln lying fifth in the table and six places above Saturday’s opponents Mansfield Town. Like Lincoln, Mansfield have had a reasonable season and have only lost one of their seven games played. A close game can be expected but Lincoln have the better recent record and home advantage which should see them justify their 7/5 favourite’s tag.
Morecambe v Newport County. Newport County are more accustomed to fighting relegation than battling for promotion but are now sixth in the table having won three and drawn one of their last five games. Still an unpredictable team, Newport should be capable of taking maximum points from their away game at struggling Morecambe who are fifth from bottom and have lost three of the last five games. Newport County are the unsurprising favourites to win this Saturday’s game but at very reasonable odds of 5/4 which looks very generous for what should be an easy victory.
Swindon Town v Stevenage. Following three wins in a row Stevenage were challenging at the top of the table but have slipped up in recent games with a draw and a defeat in the last two outings. On Saturday Stevenage have a difficult away game with Swindon Town who are quite capable on their day but also capable of turning in a poor performance. Swindon are 6/5 favourites to win but if Stevenage can rediscover some form an away win is not an impossibility and worth a small bet at 21/10.
