Steve Ryder previews the Doom Bar Anniversary Juvenile Hurdle on Day 1 of the Aintree Festival. 2019 P&L +16.18pts.
2:20 Aintree- Pentland Hills 5/2 (1pt)
This race will test the form of the Triumph Hurdle, Boodles Juvenile Handicap Hurdle and the Supreme Novices Hurdle but preference goes to the Triumph Hurdle winner Pentland Hills. He was brought along slowly by trainer Chris Wall on the flat and looks to have improved for the change in stable and code. He won impressively at Plumpton in a maiden hurdle when he beat an odds on favourite by 14 lengths. Nico De Boinville was keen for him to take his chance in the Triumph Hurdle at Cheltenham despite his inexperience but it looked an error when he made a bad mistake at the first. He recovered from that and won impressively at the finish by 3 lengths.
I rate the form of Pentland Hills higher than the handicap winner Band Of Outlaws and the Supreme Novices Hurdle 4th Fakir D’Oudaries and am a little bit surprised he isn’t favourite for the race.
