Dewhurst Stakes Odds
The Dewhurst Stakes takes place on the Rowley Mile at Newmarket in October and it is part of the Future Champions Meeting. This is a Group One race which is open to two-year-old colts and fillies. Usually, however, only colts are taking place in this race. The Dewhurst Stakes is considered the most prestigious two-year-old race in Britain. Lots of the horses competing are also going on to race, the following season, for the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket and other Classics like the Epsom Derby.
This race has an extraordinary tradition as it was established back in 1875 by Tom Gee. The name is coming from the fact that Tom Gee was the owner of the famous Dewhurst Stud in Sussex. Lots of top horses have won this race and then go on and landed glory in a Classic. One of those was Jim Bolger-trained New Approach, who won the Dewhurst Stakes in 2007 and then went on to win the Epsom Derby the year after.
Bolger has been particularly successful in this race. He has trained three of the last four race winners. Others top winners of this race are Rock Of Gilbraltar (2001), Grundy (1974) and Mill Reef (1970).
