The Day Two of the July Festival is mostly dedicated to fillies with the Falmouth Stakes and the Duchess of Cambridge Stakes that are taking centre stage at Newmarket on Friday. Both races should deliver some challenging contests.
In addition to those two Group events, there is also thrilling action during the second day of the July Festival. The bet365 Trophy and the bet365 Handicap are two of the most challenging betting races of the day. In this article, however, we will focus on the two main highlights of the day at Flat HQ with some top horse racing tips.
Day Two Of July Festival Tips
3:35pm – Falmouth Stakes Tips (Newmarket)
William Hagga’s One Master was a Group 1 winner when he was a juvenile. This season, however, he has failed to follow up and come into this event after finishing third in the Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot in June. This is the reason why he is the 11/4 favourite with Paddy Power for the Falmouth Stakes.
Roger Varian’s Qabala has also started the season in excellent form with a win in the Nell Gwyn Stakes at Newmarket. She has failed to follow up tough and was only third in the 1000 Guineas a few weeks later. She will be keen to forget that Irish 1000 Guineas performance and get back into form at Newmarket. At 7/2 with Coral looks a very decent shout.
It was Aidan O’Brien who managed to train the winner of this race in 2016 and 2017. The Ballydoyle master will attempt to get more success with I Can Fly that can be backed at a decent 9/2 with Paddy Power. This horse was third in the Duke Of Cambridge Stakes and surely has to be considered for this race. The Haggas team will try a double shot with Beshaayir who is currently at 4/1 with William Hill. It was Beshaayir who beat I Can Fly in a Group 2 contest at the Curragh earlier this season.
Looking elsewhere Sir Michael Stoute’s Veracious is available at 7/1 with Betway. He surely cannot be discounted. Mot Juste is completing the field at 18/1 with Paddy Power.
2:25pm – Duchess of Cambridge Stakes Tips (Newmarket)
One of the best performances at Royal Ascot was delivered by Roger Varian-trained Daahyeh. She managed to secure victory in the Albany Stakes where she defeated Celtic Beauty by 1 and a half lengths. The two horses will go head to head again on Friday in the Duchess of Cambridge Stakes which is one of the feature races of the July Festival.
Daahyeh won at Newmarket on debut and it is not surprising to see that she is at 13/8 with BetVictor. She can surely be a horse capable of winning a Guineas next season. It will be interesting to see if she can keep the momentum from that Albany win and record another success here.
Celtic Beauty is available at 7/1 chance with BetVictor. We don’t see her turning the form around here but we would instead consider Raffle Prize. She was impressive when winning the Queen Mary Stakes at the Royal Ascot meeting. The 4/1 price with Betfred is reasonable, but worth remembering she will also have a 3lb penalty due to that win.
Saeed bin Suroor’s Final Song can be backed at 4/1 with bet365. She was 3rd to Raffle Prize in the Queen Mary and could well reverse that form at Newmarket. Looking elsewhere Divine Spirit is available at 12/1 with bet365. This should be a cracking context with a very qualitative field.
