Cyprus v Scotland Tips & Predictions
16th November 2019 – 15:00
Match Preview & Team News
Scotland will try and finish the underwhelming Group I campaign in third place with successes in the final two games in November. They proved to be non-competitive against the likes of Belgium and Russia who have been way too dominant in this group. The Scots lost each of four games against the top two sides and a 6-0 drubbing of underdogs San Marino in the previous round will be little of a consolation to their fans.
Steve Clarke’s troops will be on a much more serious test when they travel to Nicosia for the 9th round tie against Cyprus on Saturday afternoon. The visitors are currently one point shy of Cyprus in third place, but they’ll have a decent opportunity to overtake them in the last round which sees Scotland hosting Kazakhstan and Cyprus travelling to Belgium.
Oliver Burke made the difference between these two sides scoring the 89th-minute goal when the Scots celebrated a 2-1 victory this summer at Hampden Park. Scotland have been dreadful on travels in this campaign. Putting a 0-2 win at San Marino aside, they lost the remaining three away matches without scoring a single goal in the process and conceding as many as 10 at the opposite end. The horrendous record involves a 3-0 loss at the hands of Kazakhstan at the very beginning of the campaign.
The head to head record is the only thing the visitors can be optimistic for as they won each of six previous encounters with Cyprus.
