County Hurdle Betting Preview & Tips
Day 4 – Friday 13th March 2020 – 2.10 pm – Vincent O’Brien County Hurdle – Grade 3 – 2m1f
The County Hurdle is one of the most complicated races from a punters point of view of the Cheltenham Festival. It is a Grade 3 National Hunt handicap hurdle race, which is over two miles and one furlong and it is open to horses who are aged five years and upwards. This race always has the maximum field, with plenty of well-handicapped horses that can potentially land victory.
It makes sense to look at what Willie Mullins are doing as he has saddled four of the last ten winners. This year’s Randox Health County Handicap Hurdle also give good indications on which horse is likely to prevail.
Our Bet: CIEL DE NIEGE
CIEL DE NIEGE is clearly ahead of this mark even if has failed to win in seven runs over hurdles so far. As always, this will be an ultra-competitive affair, but Ciel De Niege has been knocking on doors for a while and can surely improve on the second place he landed in the Betfair in February.
Our Verdict: Ciel De Niege

County Hurdle History
The County Hurdle is a final Cheltenham Festival day handicap race that was established in 1920. For many years it was the last race of the festival, but in 2019 it was moved earlier in the racecard. The race is run over a distance of 2 miles and one furlong, and it has eight hurdles that horses have to negotiate. Open to horses that are five years or older it has delivered plenty of surprise winners over the editions.
When we are looking to the number of race wins we do find though the usual suspects. Trainer Paul Nicholls and jockey Ruby Walsh are leading respectively as trainer and jockey in the Country Hurdle with three wins.
