Callum Smith and John Ryder will face each other for the WBA World, WBC Diamond and Ring Magazine Super-Middleweight championship on Saturday night at the M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool. The local fighter is expected to prove his dominance in the division with Ryder that is a massive outsider in this bout.
Callum Smith (26-0) has managed to win the prestigious World Boxing Super Series and the it has unified the Super-Middleweight championship after defeating George Groves last year. The Liverpool-born, however, has failed to capitalise on those wins as he has just had one fight since. This is not too surprising though, as he has the habit of recharging the batteries before going back into the ring. He is now back into the game, and we expect a spotless performance for him as he is lining up to challenge king Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez.
Smith vs Ryder Tips
It is not surprising to see that bookmakers are clearly fancying Callum Smith to win this fight. For this reason, there is little value in backing the defending champion to record a routine success. We had to work a bit harder to find some value in the betting market so that we can aim for some decent profit when betting on this bout.
Smith can mix up the attack to the body and head very efficiently. Against George Groves, we have seen this pretty well. Surely for John Ryder this fight is above his level, but he has been performing well in his last four fights. He is not quick, powerful or as technical as his opponent. It is difficult to see any possibilities of an upset here, to be honest. Smith is a massive favourite and should deliver in front of his fans. Backing a win by knockout is what we fancy for this one.
Prediction: Callum Smith to Win by KO, TKO or DQ
