Azerbaijan v Wales Tips & Predictions
16th November 2019 – 17:00
Match Preview & Team News
Wales travel to Baku hoping to stay alive in the battle for the second-place finish in Group E with a victory on Saturday evening. The Dragons occupy fourth place in their respective group but have realistic chances of catching the second spot with back-to-back wins in the last two games of the campaign in November.
To qualify, Ryan Giggs’ men need two wins and Slovakia to drop points in one of their two remaining outings. The Slovakians have a tough match-up against World Cup finalists Croatia on Saturday. Wales are going up against the weakest team in the group, but clinching a three-pointer will by no means be an easy task for them.
Azerbaijan did clinch just one point in six games so far, but it came in September when they held the likes of Croatia to a 1-1 draw on the home soil. The Azers have previously suffered two tough defeats at home against Hungary (1-3) and Slovakia (1-5), but they grew in form and confidence significantly in the last couple of matches. The 1-1 draw to the Croats was backed up by a 2-3 victory over Bahrain in a friendly and a narrow 1-0 defeat away at Hungary last month.
Wales are unbeaten in the last four affairs. The streak includes a 2-1 victory over Azerbaijan back in September when the teams met in Cardiff. Gareth Bale notched the late match-winner six minutes from time on the occasion.
Giggs is hoping to see both Aaron Ramsey and Gareth Bale on the pitch here. Real Madrid’s superstar has not featured for the club ever since a knock in the 1-1 draw to Croatia in October, while Ramsey is yet to make his maiden appearance in this qualifying campaign.
Full Time Winner Odds & Prediction
Wales should win this, but we expect it to be a tough contest to be decided by a single-goal margin. This is why the main bet will be Wales to win one goal difference at the odds of 9/4.
Goals Market Prediction
Since Azerbaijan showed strong defensive displays in the last two qualifiers against Croatia and Hungary, we will alternatively back the Under 2.5 goals FT pick at the 8/13 odds.
