Australia vs Germany – Confederations Cup.
Olimpiyskiy Stadion Fischt, Sochi – 19 June 2017, 16:00.
Match Preview and Betting Tips.
The final game of Confederations Cup Round 1 of groupstages will take place on Monday afternoon in Sochi. Group B will be concluded with the duel between champions of Asia, team Australia and world champions Germany.
Both sides were involved in both World Cup 2018 qualifiers and international matches action in the last couple of months, and both have achieved some decent success. The Socceroos are very close to claiming the ticket for Russia after beating one of the main candidates Saudi Arabia ten days ago. Tomi Juric (x2) and Toni Rogic were the heroes of that win, and many seen them as the key parts for Australian success on upcoming Confederations Cup.
The main trouble for them so far in 2017 has been defending. Australia have kept only one clean sheet in the last six outings across all competitions. The last test for this cup was a pure disaster. Ange Postecoglou’s team was defeated by Brazil in front of the home crowd in a ruthless manner 0 – 4.
The veteran Tim Cahill should also make an appearance on Monday against Germany. Even though his career is not far from an end, he is still successfully playing in A-League.
As for their opponents, the Germans have decided to pick world – class opponents for the last three friendly games they played. Duels against Denmark and Italy ended without winner, while the Panzers won the big clash against their biggest rivals England 1 – 0.
When it comes to their World Cup 2018 qualifying campaign, they are very close to claim the first position in their respective group. Germany scored 11 goals in the last two duels against Azerbaijan and San Marino.
As expected, the bookies have made the world champions big favorites to win their premiere Confederations Cup game. The odds are at 2/5, while the price for The Socceroos to achieve the same and cause a big upset is offered at 8/1.
We have no doubt Joachim Loew’s team will secure a win in this match, but the odds should have been better. In comparison to the WC in Brazil, they are using completely different attacking duo. Red Bull Leipzig’s TImo Werner and Hoffenheim’s Sandro Wagner are leading the charge, being offered as the top goal scorers market options at the moment. Backing any of them to score anytime at 11/10 seems like a good bet to us.
The last match between them was played in 2015 (friendly game). Full time result in Berlin was 2 – 2.
