ATP Winston-Salem Betting Tips

Players will complete the final touches on their prep for the approaching US Open this week in Winston-Salem.
On the ATP Tour, a betting market this open presents opportunities for bettors and is uncommon. Let’s take a look at what our betting experts are suggesting for this week’s action.

The week prior to a Grand Slam, I would normally mention that it would be worthwhile to take on the major guns in the tournament at this time.
The reality is that not many famous people are there. Only one of the top 20 players in the world, Grigor Dimitrov, is among the 48-man draw, and Steve Johnson, who is rated 91st, is the last direct acceptance. However, there’s still one more thing to keep in mind in a week like this.

The last thing you want to be doing is backing someone who is going to put in a modest effort to safeguard themselves for the bigger tournament ahead. I’m always keen to find a guy with a track record of performing well (and basically giving his all) immediately prior to a Slam.

ILYA IVASHKA is a person who fits the bill since he won this competition a year ago. The last time he competed at this level (250), Ivashka reached Atlanta’s semifinals before falling to eventual winner Alex de Minaur in a set.
On such a court, his powerful first serve and club forehand are huge weapons, and the circumstances this week should be favourable once more. This week’s matches should be fairly speedy because they are played on the same Laykold surface as the US Open and because temperatures are predicted to reach 30C.

When Ivashka defeated the competition last year, not only did the circumstances appear ideal for him to win. He didn’t drop a set in the final four rounds, winning 6 of the eight matches by scores of 6-2 or higher. This is the first time Ivaskha has come back to an ATP event as the reigning champion, so of course there is a risk that the weight of defending the championship (and 250 total points) weighs heavily on his shoulders, but I think there’s a lot to appreciate about his prospects.

Although Pablo Carreno Busta & Marin Cilic were among the favourites to win last year’s championship but fell short, the field appears weaker this year despite the fact that he is ‘only’ around 12/1.

With an opening matchup against Jiri Lehecka or Peter Gojowczyk and a potential meeting with Sebastian Baez in round three—hardly the toughest seed he might face—Ivashka appears to possess the chance to play himself into the tournament.

Although the top seed, Dimitrov has only gone 2-3 on the US hardcourts this summer, the Bulgarian short odds are primarily based on reputation. He might follow in the quarterfinals. Since Jack Draper is a rising talent who has previously defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas on hard courts this summer, Dimitrov might have been eliminated by then, so not even cause a concern for Ivashka.
