These are a few difficult draws, but the Austrian has had better luck in Gijon, where the seeds in his quarter are Francisco Cerundolo and Albert Ramos-Vinolas, two athletes who greatly like the feel of clay beneath their feet, and I believe that he has a great chance to gain traction and advance. Rublev might make this appear like another semi-final loser, but I’m not quite sold on the Russian this week, making it worthwhile to place a tiny bet on Thiem at 12/1.

At nearby Forli, where he has already made himself at home, he finished second indoors on the Challenger Tour earlier this season. The Dutchman won 86% of the points after his first serve and went undefeated in his two qualifying matches while smashing down 34 aces.
