After the disappointing defeat in Monte Carlo, this should be a golden opportunity for Rafa Nadal to bounce back and secure the title. Not surprisingly, Nadal is the top seed in this ATP 500 tournament. Sixteen players are getting first-round byes, including Nadal, Monte Carlo’s winner Stefanos Tsitsipas and the runner up Andrey Rublev. Since 2005 Nadal has won 11 titles, and the task of the other clay-courters is to disrupt that period of dominance. Last week the King of Clay was shockingly eliminated by Rublev and will be keen to make amends.

Looking at the draw, it will probably be a battle between the strong players at the bottom of the draw to see who will face Nadal in the final. In addition to Tsitsipas and Rublev we find here the interesting young duo of Jannik Sinner and Casper Ruud, in addition to Shapovalov and Bautista-Agut, who are both powerful on this surface. Another player you might want to consider if you are looking for higher odds is Lorenzo Musetti, who is a young clay-courter on a significant upside. With Tsitsipas and Rublev, who will be tired after last week, it isn’t easy to see anyone stopping Nadal to win this trophy this week.

Similarly to Nadal, Djokovic will be keen to make amends on what has been a disappointing week in Monte Carlo. His price is even shorter than Nadal, and the reason is that the field in this tournament is weaker than the Catalan’s event. If we look beyond the Serb, we find Matteo Berrettini and Aslan Karatsev in the market. Still, honestly, those would be massive underdogs if they will face Djokovic at any step of this tournament.

Filip Krajinovic and Dusan Lajovic should also do well on clay, but again they won’t stand a chance against Djokovic. The only one that might be able to cause an upset is Matteo Berrettini, but there are questions over his fitness. After he withdrew from the Australian Open in February, he was defeated in straight sets by Davidovich Fokina in Monte Carlo, so we don’t see him challenging Djokovic either.

We expect Djokovic to win here and Nadal to win in Barcelona, which, combined into a double, makes an interesting read considering that upsets this week are improbable in both tournaments.
