Match Preview & Team News

Russian Andrey Rublev will take on Adrian Mannarino of Drance in the final of the Kremlin Cup in Moscow. The home fans will have the opportunity to support a home-grown player in what should be a very intriguing match between two players that have never faced each other before.

Both Rublev and Mannarino dispatched their opponents in the semi-finals without too many problems. And they have done the same in the quarter finals so we have here two players who are in very good form at the minute.

Rublev during his path has eliminated 2014 US Open champion Marin Cilic at the end of a nearly-perfect performance. The Russian has been serving exceptionally well for the whole tournament and was able to put the Croat under pressure while he was serving. When Cilic missed the first server, Rublev won over 60% of the points and eventually secured a comfortable 7-5, 6-4 win.

Mannarino had it even easier against Italian Andreas Seppi and won for a clear 6-3, 6-4. The Frenchman didn’t conceded a single breakpoint and had an impressive 77% of his second serve points. Mannarino loves the Kremlin Cup and the surface is perfect for him. He hasn’t yet drop a set in the Russian capital and will come to this final confident he can deliver an upset to the Moscow’s crowd.

We expect this match to be very entertaining. Rublev had a more difficult way to the final but this should be the thoughest challenge he has faced here so far. Both those two players have struggled in the past with the pressure of being in the final and they will try to change that. Last time Rublev won a title was in Umag. Earlier this year he lost to Nikoloz Basilashvili in Hamburg. Mannarino has been in five tour-level finals but has won in just one occasion.

Winner Odds & Prediction

From a betting point of view this match is a hard call but we must consider that Rublev can count on the home advantage. The Russian seems to have more power off the ground and sometimes it struggle with accuracy. Mannarino does give away a little from the baseline but can cover the court very well. All the conditions at the Kremlin Cup looks to be in favour of first-strike tennis and with Rublev able to get the backing from the crowd we are punting on him to edge this final.
